Every so often, the freezer gives up a little secret.
We found this coffee tucked away in our green coffee freezer, still vacuum-packed and quietly resting for at least three years. Curiosity got the better of us, so we decided to roast it and see what time, cold storage, and a little patience had done. Honestly, we weren’t sure what to expect. Green coffee is alive in its own way, and aging is usually not kind. But this lot surprised us.
In the cup, it still carries the unmistakable elegance of Nyeri: delicate notes of blueberry tea, soft citrus, and a refined sweetness that lingers gently. It is not loud or showy. Instead, it is graceful, composed, and quietly beautiful — the kind of coffee that rewards a little attention.
This lot comes from 1,126 family-owned farms delivering coffee to the Ichamama Factory, a wet mill in Kenya’s celebrated Nyeri region, nestled along the fertile foothills of the Aberdare mountain range. The mill is managed by the Othaya Farmers Co-operative Society, founded in 1956 with just 250 members. Today, the cooperative has grown to nearly 15,000 members and supports more than 14,500 families through coffee.
Most farmers in this area cultivate small half-acre plots, averaging around 250 coffee trees each, often shaded by banana, grevillea, and macadamia trees. Across the cooperative, varieties such as SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian grow over roughly 2,370 acres. The society now operates 19 wet mills, a dry mill, and administrative offices, creating both permanent and seasonal employment in the region.
We are offering this coffee because it sparked our curiosity, and we thought it might spark yours, too. It is a rare chance to taste how carefully frozen green coffee evolves over time — not as an experiment in theory, but as something alive in the cup.
Delicate, citrusy, and quietly complex, this is a coffee with a story worth tasting, and a reminder that sometimes the best discoveries are the ones we almost forgot were there.

Please note that all ground coffee purchases are final sale and are not eligible for refund or exchange. Because ground coffee is prepared specifically to your selected grind size, we are unable to accept returns or offer exchanges once the package has been opened or shipped.

If you're unsure of your grind preference, we recommend choosing whole bean coffee for maximum flexibility and freshness.
