Elmer and Leyla own two small farms near the towns of Viste Alegre and Bombaca in the mountainous area southwest of the city of Jaén. They’ve been working with Origin Coffee Lab since 2017. Initially, they had concerns about Origin’s claims to procure high prices for their coffee. When Origin was able to deliver on their promises, they decided to share their partnership with other local farmers in the area. In addition to coffee, Elmer and Leyla grow yuca, plantain, guava and lemon on their farms and run a small grocery store in the town of Viste Alegre.

This particular lot comes from their Bolsal farm which is near the town of Bombaca. Located at over 1900 meters above sea level, it is planted with Caturra and Catuai. They are picked by Elmer and Leyla themselves. The coffees are depulped, fermented for 20 hours and then dried over two weeks on covered patios. Their coffees are fruity and balanced, producing flavours of raisin and dark chocolate with floral aromas.

We want to draw your attention to a subtle change on our labels, all of our labels now include both filter and espresso symbols.  The reason for this is simple:  all of our coffees have been prepared so that they are well suited to any brewing method.  Different brewing methods will highlight different aspects of our coffees, making each brew unique.  We will continue to classify any coffees we deem especially suited for brewing espresso.

A decent coffee

Full bodied with stewed fruit notes. Great for aero press and mocha coffee makers. Not as good as the coffee from the Galapagos Islands but more readily available.
